Oh, the Iron-y

So I failed to maintain my Iron LA Flasher title, which was not unexpected. I wasn’t exactly in top shape, as I had just flown in from New York that same afternoon — after having spent 7 days there eating and going to art museums — so I was pretty tired, and my internal clock was still running three hours ahead. Plus, I didn’t follow some of my own advice: I didn’t work on my own equipment (used my wife’s PowerBook), and I didn’t know my shit.

They sprung FLV video on us, which is one of the few things about Flash that I haven’t yet had the opportunity to work with, so I know very little about it. Not a big deal, I figured, I’ll just look it up in the Flash Help docs…that’s when I realized that the Help wasn’t installed on the PowerBook. So I looked up the topics on the Web via LiveDocs — eventually — after getting LA Flash’s (insanely long) WEP password…before the connection just crapped out on me entirely. That I was still able to put together something even remotely compelling makes me feel good, though…makes me feel…iron.

(I’m tempted to mention that Jon Ruppel’s winning entry consisted mostly of a giant include statement importing tons of existing Tequilla code, whereas, even though we were allowed to do that, I created everything there on the spot, as I believe this is more in line with the spirit of the competition. I’m tempted to mention this, but I won’t because I don’t want to sound like I’m whining….)
